I have lived here in Durham Region since 1988. In fact when I moved here, my whole family followed. Wonderful place.
I was born and raised in Chile South America. My background is Spanish with Jewish French ancestry. Growing up in the capital of Chile Santiago was a beautiful experience to say the least. I had a life full of adventures, having the Pacific Ocean on one side and the famous Andes Mountains on the other. However, though the beauty of nature surrounded me, I grew up in a home where there was constant turmoil, which traumatized much of my young life
In 1973 September 11, the city of Santiago where we lived was taken over by war. We had a new president by the name of Pinochet who had taken over by coup d'état which put an end to Allende's democratically elected socialist government.
The military threat in the streets was very real; we began hearing about families being executed, people disappearing at alarming rates. According to many various reports and investigations later on in years, 1,200–3,200 people were killed, up to 80,000 were interned, and up to 30,000 were tortured by Pinochet’s regime including women and children.
Dad was involved in the politics of it all, putting our lives endanger.
In 1976, Canada took us in as refugees.
When I came to Canada, I had high hopes and dreams that as a family we would have a second chance to start a new life. We began attending church, and I loved it. Nevertheless, within a short time, I became the victim of a child predator. At the same time, at school and at home I was often bullied.
Within two years from arriving into Canada, at the tender age of 14 years old, with hardly a word of English and frightened to death I found myself living in the cold streets of Edmonton, behind buildings, bus stops, train stations.
Then one night I collapsed to my death, and awoke in complete darkens. I saw Satan...his hands like black claws digging, tearing at my soul, ready to take me to HELL. I knew Satan had rights to me as I had ignorantly allowed a witch doctor to put a curse on me. I panicked and yelled one name. And what happened next, changed my life forever! I have since writen a book about my life experiences, what I have suffered, and what I have learened. The book is called "Rescued by the LIGHT".
